First Impressions of the Frisco Skatepark:

AMAZING! Rocky Mountain peaks set the background to the Frisco Skatepark, giving the vibe of an outdoor mecca. From the parking area, you first walk into the wide open area of the street section.

As you cruise the perimeter of the skatepark, the flow section of the park comes into view and it looks very chaotic at first glance. As you look over the humps, pockets, dips, and vert walls your eyes start to create lines and you can see that the chaotic look of the park actually flows extremely well.

The excitement I felt when I first saw the Frisco Skatepark took me back to how I felt my first time at the Volcom Brothers Skatepark in Mammoth Lakes.

Pros:
Smooth transitions in every direction, tall vert.

Cons:
Not many obstacles for street skaters, very slick cement especially for soft wheels,

Know Before You Go:
Bring pads – the cement can be slick and the layout takes some getting used to.

Directions:
Take the Frisco/Breckenridge exit (#203) off of US-70. Head south on Summit Blvd / CO 9 in Frisco, continuing straight through a couple roundabouts. You’ll see the Frisco Adventure Park on the north side of the road, then turn left on Recreation Way. Follow the road down the hill and park at the building by the skatepark.

The Frisco Skatepark and Adventure Park address is: 621 Recreation Way, Frisco, CO 80443

Riders Thoughts:

The Frisco Skatepark is an amazing skatepark with a seemingly endless flow in any direction. At first glance, the Frisco Skatepark looks kind of chaotic compared to other skateparks. This skatepark has a unique layout in the sense that half of the skatepark is a random mix of turns, humps, pockets, and bowls that can be linked together in almost any direction at any time. The flow and transitions of this park make for ideal conditions to longboard in the skatepark.

incredible free flowing skatepark layout

The park appears chaotic at first because there seems to be no direction, but when your cruising in the skatepark the direction seems to flow well no matter where you’re going.

A Look at the Layout

The unique layout of the skatepark in Frisco allows riders to be creative while riding in the park. Lines seem to go on forever because there are smooth transitions in every direction and they often lead to a hump or steep drop which allows a rider to easily maintain and build speed.

Some skateparks and bowls often lead to a rider going in circles over and over, but you could be skating at the Frisco Skatepark for an hour and never do the same line twice!

smooth transitions and banked turns

The smooth transitions, humps, banked turns, and steep drops really made this skatepark enjoyable on a longboard because it was easy to build and maintain speed. This skatepark kind of feels like a pump track because of your ability to just keep going and going. But it is different because there is no set track, you can literally go any where! (We recently went to a cool pump track in Broomfield, Colorado. You can read about that here.)

This ability to go in any direction could lead to crashes and traffic, but everyone skating at this park seemed aware of each other. And there was a good atmosphere at the Frisco Skatepark with people watching out for one another.

Tips for Your First Visit to the Frisco Skatepark

There are a couple things to be aware of when skating at the Frisco Skatepark. One is that there are ledges and coping that can sneak up on you. Many riders at this park are going fast because the park is set up for that. But if you are going fast over a hump and expect a smooth transition on the other side then all off a sudden it’s a 4 foot drop with coping instead… well you’re going fast, so now you’re just flying!

The other thing to be aware of is the slickness of the cement. The flow section of the Frisco Skatepark has many humps and dips and some of them are at tricky angles. When hitting some of these angles and slopes your momentum can carry your board sideways a little. That’s usually ok, but the dusty/slick surface here can be dramatic and exaggerated – causing your wheels to slide out from under you.

We skated at this skatepark four separate times and every time we saw multiple people fall, kids and experienced riders alike. I happened to fall 3 or 4 times in one day. So that’s why I recommend bringing/wearing pads until comfortable with the layout of the park.

More on the Layout

Between the street section and the bowl section of the Frisco Skatepark is a seating area. This is a cool spot for the seating area because it gives some separation to the fast vert side and the slower street side. The middle of the skatepark is a great spot to catch your breath and watch the other skaters.

The street section of the Frisco Skatepark has a very open layout with a few rails, a couple boxes, and some jumps.

This is a great skatepark for everyone because there is a variety of sizes of drops and varying steepness of the angles so a rider can gradually go to bigger obstacles if they want.

Because there are so many smooth transitions this is a great place for someone to learn how a skatepark flows. Experienced riders will also love this skatepark because it also offers a high speed environment with an endless amount of lines.
