If you’re ever in the Las Vegas area, the Arroyo Grande Pump Track is a great place to check out! It is located in the Arroyo Grande Sports Complex which is a huge park in Henderson Nevada, the town just south of Las Vegas. It has a wide variety of activities to do and facilities to use. Rider’s Experience: Arroyo Grande Pump Track

The Arroyo Grande Pump Track actually the first pump track that I have ever been to and I was excited! The parking lot of the Arroyo Grande Sports Complex overlooks the park from atop a pretty big hill. From here there is a very smooth paved trail down to the park and was great for the longboard!

Looking down at the pump track from the parking lot lets you see the lines and routes to follow over the hills. The track is a great size for longboards, shorter boards, scooters, and small bikes. The engineering that went into this park is great, with a number of established routes that really let you pump hard and build up speed.

Pump Track hills and bumps

The pavement is a smooth asphalt and all of the hills have smooth transitions. There are a few tall banked turns that are a lot of fun! The track has a great layout for continuous riding and multiple paths to follow. Riding on this track is very fun and a challenging workout.

When we travel to skate parks I am always excited to find a snake bowl to ride my longboard in. Cruising in the pump track compares to riding in a ginormous snake bowl. Riding in this pump track gave me a similar feeling to riding in the Snake Bowl at Kona Skate Park in Florida. And the Frisco Skatepark is an amazing skatepark that flows like a pump track!

While skating in the pump track, you really have the ability to pump hard and go fast. Riding in the pump track is a continuous workout the whole time because the hills force you to keep going. There aren’t flat areas to stop and catch your breath. The size of the hills inside the pump track cause the speed of your run to be very quick.

In the same enclosed area of the sports complex, there is a larger pump track area for BMX and mountain bikes. This area has a tall, steep hill and larger hills to pump down along with steeper banked turns. The largest hills and steepest drops are dirt hills for bikes. I rode my longboard down the steepest paved hill a few times and it was a fun. The hills in this area of the track are much bigger, and with a longboard the routes are pretty limited.

Nearby Pittman Wash Trail

After experiencing the exciting pump track, I cruised on one of the paved paths that began in the sports complex. This particular one is called Pittman Wash and it parallels the wash. There are miles of paved trail systems stemming from the park going in a few different directions.

Pittman Wash Trail is paved and smooth, not as smooth as the pump track but still nice. There are many sections that have bumps and cracks like your typical paved path.

If you follow the right path, you will find yourself in the aqueduct. This is a cement river bed pretty much. Its paved and fun to skate in! There was a little water when we were here, but not too much. But I’m not sure on the usual water levels, but the wash is very big and it’s in Las Vegas, so I can’t imagine it gets too full.

The cement wash leads you to a large long tunnel. If there is not too much water you can take the tunnel the whole way and end up at the sports complex.

If You’re in the Area

The Arroyo Grande Sports Complex is a must stop destination for any skateboarder in the Las Vegas area. If you’re in the area and would like a more traditional skate park, you should check out the Mountain Ridge Skate Park. This park is a nice, big skate park with bowls and a great street section.

If you’re done getting kicks on your board and you’re still hungry for adventure there is plenty more to do in the Las Vegas area. If you’d like to see the Las Vegas strip from the top of a mountain, Gass Peak is a good option! Or if you’re in the mood for a longer backpacking trip, you’d enjoy the trek to the top of Hayford Peak.
