First Impressions of Elk Grove Skatepark

The ten foot fence and revolving metal gate to get in the Elk Grove Skatepark are a little intense at first, but the skatepark itself is great. Once through the gate you are on the street side of the skatepark and there are a ton of ledges and ramps in various sizes. Continue further into the skatepark and there are two good medium sized bowls.

Riders Thoughts:

The Elk Grove Skatepark is a simple skatepark, but it has diversity of great obstacles for different types of riders. The skatepark is pretty compact and there is a separation between the main three different parts: the street section and the two separate bowls. The pavement is smooth and flat all around around the perimeter.

Elk Grove Skatepark Street Section

When you first walk into the Elk Grove Skatepark you enter by the street section of the park. And this skatepark has a pretty legit street section. This side of the skatepark has ramps and stairs dropping to the floor and raising back up on the other side.

There are a ton of boxes and ledges in this area which is great for all sorts of street tricks. Some of the boxes and ledges are really high, but there are also many medium sized boxes as well. There is only one rail, but all of the ledges are lined in metal.

Checking out the First Bowl

The first bowl at the Elk Grove Skatepark is a medium sized bowl with one side that is deeper than the other. The deep side of this bowl is rounded, like a half circle. And the shallow side is a square shape with rounded corners. The banked turns in the square side are great for pumping speed. This bowl is completely lined in coping and could substitute as a half pipe for someone looking to ride that.

Cruising the Second Bowl

The second bowl was the highlight of the Elk Grove Skatepark for me. This bowl has a unique clover shape with a variety of depths. And it also has a roll in! I was able to roll into this bowl with my longboard and shred pretty well. Both the depth of the bowl along with the steep roll in makes it very easy to start a run with high speed. The unique shape of the bowl makes it possible to pump around turns and maintain your speed for the entire run.

Sometimes riding a longboard in a bowl can feel like going in circles. But this bowl was fun because the four pockets of the clover shape make it easy to vary between frontside and backside turns in the same run. The variety of depths also adds a fun feature to this bowl. Aside from the one roll in, most of this bowl is lined in coping for those looking to drop in.
