Riders Thoughts:

The Ripon Skatepark is a huge skatepark with smooth cement and smooth transitions throughout the entire park. There are not the usual obstacles making up a street section at this skatepark which may be off putting for some skateboarders, but if you like vert you’ll be in heaven.

As a longboarder, the Curt Pernice Skatepark is great for my style of riding and surfing the cement. There are a few areas that have great roll ins which allow riders on a longboard to start their run with a lot of speed. And as soon as you drop in there are banked turns, smooth transitions, and pockets in every direction helping riders to build and maintain high speeds throughout the skatepark.

Checking Out the Layout of the Ripon Skatepark

The front of the Ripon Skatepark has three deep pockets with horseshoe banked turns and smooth transitions. Pumping a board through these turns is easy and the layout of the park makes it easy to go from one turn to another, no matter what direction you are skating in. This area of the skatepark has coping around the edge. And two of these bowls share a spine with a rounded island at the end of the spine. There is flat top box between the second and third pocket of the bowl.

Their are a few large peninsulas in the middle of the skatepark that split the skatepark into thirds. The first large peninsula has a smooth transition wall on one side with a large mellow ramp on the other side, going down towards the back half of the skatepark. This peninsula also has a cool rounded banked turn with coping.

Shred it Later – Pin it Now

This next peninsula is flat on top with long ramps and smooth transitions on either side. This peninsula is great because the height is not as tall as the perimeter of the skatepark but it’s close and has a smooth transition to the coping.

This small transition is at a mellow enough angle to roll in over the coping. On a longboard, coping makes it nearly impossible to drop/roll in but this angle was mellow enough for me to drop-in over the coping. It doesn’t sound like much, but it was the first time I was able to roll in over coping on a longboard.

Across from the large peninsula is another smaller peninsula. This part of the skatepark was important to me because this is where the coping stops and gives riders a steep roll in.

This peninsula is great because it allows riders to roll in at a steep angle in either direction. You can easily roll in front side or back side in either direction.

At the Back Wall

The back wall of the Ripon Skatepark is one giant vert wall! The wall is at least 100 feet long and about 10 feet and straight up with a smooth transition at the bottom.

There is a gap in the coping in the middle of the wall which has a steep roll in. The large vert wall has smooth transition corners on either side allowing riders to get high on the wall in either direction.

I’ve known Curt Pernice For 44 years and Went to College With Him . He Was a Great Guy and Valued Friend Back then. Looks like He Has Done Well For Himself Being Mayor Of Ripon and Developing a Tremendous Skating Park! A Shame He Has Totally Turned His Back on His Old Friends With His Good Fortune That Has Come His Way . Kind To Some ,A Classless Jerk To Others . If You See Curt Tell him All his Old Friends Miss Him and Would Like to leave it That Way. Lol
