This skatepark has a cool shape and layout that make it unlike many other skateparks. There are some useful “island” features in the middle of the skatepark. These provide riders with an opportunity to drop in in any direction from the middle of the skatepark.

These islands add to the flow of the skatepark by providing banked turns and smooth transitions in the middle of the skatepark. The islands help the flow of the park because they provide riders with separation and they create different paths and tracks to ride on. For advanced riders, these islands are ideally set up for jumps and getting some air.

Along the edges of the cement riders can find a number of different transition types. There are a few flat mellow ramps but most of the transitions are pretty steep. Luckily, there are some smooth roll in areas, along with a bunch of cement ledges, a few metal ledges, and coping which can be found all over the skatepark.

Atop one of the islands is a pretty cool donut shaped obstacle. I’ve never seen a feature like this at a skatepark. It was interesting to me but I couldn’t really do much with it since I ride a longboard. But I’m sure a creative skateboarder could find a cool way to use this feature.

There is a mellow and smaller side to the Montrose Skatepark which provides smaller kids and beginners a great spot to skate. This side has a more open and flat layout with a few smaller ramps and quarter pipes. This is also where most of the rails can be found.

Overall, the Montrose Skatepark is a great skatepark for anyone who enjoys a vert style of skating as well as those who like cruising a skatepark with a longboard. Experienced rides will love this park, and beginners will have a good place learn as well as the ability to try some larger banked turns. This whole park is pretty cool. We enjoyed seeing people surf and kayak on the man made river rapids as we didn’t expect to see anyone surfing in the land locked state of Colorado.
