    Hiking North Schell Peak: 11,883′ Highest Point in High Schells Wilderness

    Hiking North Schell Peak is a rewarding experience where you'll find many aspen, a flowing creek, great panoramic views and likely, complete solitude. It's also a great change of scenery and an opportunity to beat the heat at lower elevation. North Schell Peak reaches 11,883 feet elevation with a prominence of 5,404 feet. These impressive numbers make it both a high point and an "ultraprominent" peak in the High Schells Wilderness near Ely, Nevada. The North Schells Wilderness is a long, skinny mountain range stretching about 140 miles encompassing a beautiful landscape and several beckoning peaks.

    Basin and Range National Monument encompasses 704,000 acres of - the monuments namesake - basin and range landscapes. These landscapes are made up of alternating steep narrow mountain ranges separated by wide basins with elevations ranging from about 4,200 - 8,900 feet. Here you'll find fascinating geology and rock formations as well as an incredible diversity of plants and animals. And Basin and Range National Monument has one of the best collections of petroglyphs we have ever seen.

    Dispersed Camping Near Alamo, NV | Beautiful, Boulders, Box Canyon

    With the amount of public land in Nevada, there are several options for finding dispersed camping near Alamo but we think we hit the jackpot. After passing Pahranagat Wildlife Refuge, we finally reached the little town of Alamo where we then turned west onto some dirt roads in search of adventure. As we neared the mountains in the distance, we realized that they were massive heaps of boulders beckoning us to come closer.     Whether you're looking for a scenic area to get away or for some dispersed camping near Mt Shavano for ease of bagging this 14er, camping at Shavano Wildlife Area is a great choice. Some of the camp spots are tucked into the junipers while others are more open and spread out. And almost all of the spots have incredible vast, mountain views. This scenic dispersed camping area is no secret though so plan accordingly, especially on weekends.
