Riders Thoughts: Orange Cove Skatepark

As soon as you enter through the gate of the Orange Cove Skatepark you can see the flow and depth to this large cement skatepark. Standing in the front corner of the skatepark feels a lot like standing on top of a hill because once you go down the first ramp the flow and vert walls of the park make it so you can just go and go. The Orange Cove skatepark is a great place for longboarding in a skatepark because the transitions and flow feel like your surfing the cement!

This large skatepark has a pretty unique layout with lots of room and open space for pop tricks. And it has a bunch of boxes and rails for street tricks and grinding. Riders can also find a stair case as one of the first features of the park. This set of stairs is in the middle of a mellow down ramp that leads down to the rest of the skatepark.

Once cruising around the Orange Cove Skatepark, you’ll find obstacles all over the place. There is a great variety of banked turns ranging in size from very small to very large. These banked turns are great for longboarding in a skatepark because they help create most of the flow to the skatepark. And they also aid in the building and maintaining of speed once you’re cruising.

Once down the first ramps there is a large pyramid feature that has a large box with metal ledges as well as another ledge at a lower height. This pyramid has flat ramps on 3 sides that really add to the flow of this part of the skatepark.

From the top of Orange Cove Skatepark riders can go down the first ramp, down the second ramps, up and down the pyramid, then pump over a rounded hump to enter the main large vert area. After those obstacles it’s easy for riders to get going very very fast.

The large vert walls, banked turns, and pockets are designed perfectly to deal with all this speed. This area of the skatepark really feels like cement surfing because the smooth transitions and tall walls feel like big waves.

There are many features that make riders move extremely fast at the Orange Cove Skatepark. I found that pumping through the variety of banked turns and getting high on the walls is the best way for me to deal with the high speeds while longboarding in the skatepark.

The main vert section of the Orange Cove Skatepark features at least 15 banked turns or pockets and has a smooth transitioned change in depth. These features make this vert section great for longboarding in a skatepark. The flow of this skatepark and vert section rival some of the best skateparks I have ever skated in.

Along the sides of the skatepark is where there are a bunch of street skating obstacles such as rails, boxes, and even another set of stairs and ramps. The amount of ramps, both up and down, along the perimeter add a lot to the overall flow of the park.

rails, ledges and bowls

Riders will find coping and metal ledges as well as a number of cement ledges around the park. There are plenty of mellow ramps but no deep roll in areas at this skatepark. The variety of obstacle sizes are great for learning new things and sharpening skills.
