Longboarding Dillon Reservoir Rec Path

Longboarding Dillon Reservoir Rec Path is a great opportunity to take the board out and cruise through some beautiful Colorado scenery! Conveniently located across from the incredible Frisco Skatepark, this paved path provides great views of the blue sparkling Dillon Reservoir with the towering mountains in the distance. Following the shoreline provides some exceptional glimpses of the cool coves and islands in the reservoir. And if you’re able to visit this path in the fall, the golden display of aspen leaves makes the scenery even more beautiful than it already is.

Dillon Reservoir Rec Path can be done as a complete loop or in segments. The trail connects the towns of Frisco, Silverthorne and Dillon. It also accesses several parks, marinas and day use areas as well as the opportunity to connect with a few other rec paths in the area. There are a number of parking areas that provide access to the rec path as well as a hand full of restrooms spread out along the path. You can follow this path clockwise or counter-clockwise

Surface Type: Asphalt

Directions: We parked at Frisco Adventure Park to begin our longboarding run to Marina Park in Dillon. To get to Frisco Adventure Park, take the Frisco/Breckenridge exit (#203) off of US-70. Head south on Summit Blvd / CO 9 in Frisco, continuing straight through a couple roundabouts. You’ll see the Frisco Adventure Park on the north side of the road, then turn left on Recreation Way. Follow the road down the hill and park across from the skatepark.

Our Experience Longboarding Dillon Reservoir Rec Path

After a quick morning skate sesh at the amazing Frisco Skatepark we set out on our longboarding Dillon Reservoir Rec Path adventure (I chose to ride the bike for this one). To start, we picked up the paved path right across from the skatepark. The path was pretty smooth asphalt but there were some cracks though they were pretty minor. And immediately, the scenery was gorgeous! The mountains in the distance were incredible – blanketed with aspens dressed in their autumn colors.

Longboarding Dillon Reservoir Rec Path clockwise from the skatepark, we passed Frisco Bay Marina and the local middle school. We made a quick stop here and Shane longboarded some impressive timed laps.

From here, we followed the path through a scenic wetlands area where we crossed a bridge and continued taking in the beautiful scenery. Although this is a popular recreation trail in the area, the traffic wasn’t bad and everyone had good trail etiquette.

One of the highlights of longboarding Dillon Reservoir Rec Path was this quick, curvy and colorful wooded area. Here the path was lined with beautiful trees and it felt like we were cruising on a paved path through the woods.

This section of the path was also a consistent mellow downhill which was perfect for carving on the longboard. And those colors!

As we were approaching the Dillon Dam, we were paralleling the road but were just feet away from the reservoir. And we could see the town of Silverthorne up ahead.

We continued longboarding Dillon Reservoir Rec Path, following the shoreline until we reached Marina Park by the Dillon Marina. The park itself was really nice with a playground, restrooms, water fountains, benches, picnic tables, grills and a stretch of beach across the way. And don’t forget the great mountain and lake views. We hung out here and had a snack before Shane took the opportunity to cruise the long curved hill here near Marina Park.

The Dillon Reservoir Rec Path curved and descended as we were heading towards Marina Park before it bottomed out and began a steep ascent.

So that means that from Marina Park there was a nice hill heading back towards Frisco as well!

From Marina Park the path continues to complete the loop around Dillon Reservoir back to Frisco Adventure Park. But for our longboarding Dillon Reservoir Rec Path experience, this is where we turned back and skated back to Frisco Adventure Park in the opposite direction.

Longboarding Dillon Reservoir Rec Path from Frisco Adventure Park to Marina Park and back was a great time. The smooth asphalt and mellow conditions made for a really chill run with scenery that’s hard to beat!
