Venice Beach Skate Park

Venice Beach is known for being eccentric and expressive yet chill made up of the iconic artsy boardwalk, entertaining performers, infamous Muscle Beach and the Venice Beach Skate Park. The Venice Beach Skate Park is located right on the beach, just west of the end of Market Street.

The skate park is right in the heart of Venice Beach, next to the graffiti walls, just past the basketball courts and nestled in the sand between the ocean and the bike path. Side note, the bike path is pretty sick.

As a longboarder, I prefer the bike trail over this skate park. The trail goes from south Venice all the way past the Santa Monica Pier. The whole path is about 8.5 miles in total. The trail is super smooth and you’ll see mixed traffic of boarders, walkers, joggers, roller bladers and bikers along the way. The path provides a super enjoyable ride with great views of the beach, the ocean, the pier, and all the fun there is to see in the Venice Beach area. The adult playground just south of the Santa Monica Pier is a great place to play around and watch all the athletic talent.

About the Venice Beach Skate Park

The Venice Beach Skate Park is very diverse with a variety of obstacles and bowls. The area in front of the skate park is a mostly flat area, but there are a few little ledges and rails to grind on. There are also a few small walls with smooth vertical transitions.

Then the main section of the park offers 3 main bowls along with a very large area for street skating. The bowls are all pretty large. The longest of the bowls snakes around the east side of the park. It has coping around the deeper sides, but most of the edge is great for rolling in.

The other two bowls are smaller but deeper. The center bowl has coping almost all the way around with a small gap and a steep roll in. The last bowl is a large deep bowl, surrounded entirely in coping.

The street area of the park is very large with many obstacles. There are more ledges and boxes than I could count. There are a few small sets of stairs, as well as a few rails.

All around the perimeter of the Venice Beach Skate Park there is almost always a crowd of people watching and taking pictures. The vibe in this park wasn’t as friendly as most of the other parks I’ve been to. There are always a lot of skaters too, and most of them are pretty good. This along with the amount of traffic in the park makes it a little intimidating.

This skate park is just as legendary as Venice Beach itself, so if you get the opportunity, you should definitely skate here. And if you’re more of a longboarder looking to cruise, you should still check out the park and enjoy all of the skate talent, then hop on the bike path to the Santa Monica pier.

And don’t miss the awesome adult sized playground right by the Santa Monica Pier. It’s one of our favorite parts of coming to the Venice Beach/ Santa Monica area!
