Skatepark in Ridgecrest, California

The skatepark in Ridgecrest California is a compact skatepark with smooth cement and many different features. The skatepark is inside of a larger park with ball fields, a dog park, a playground and restrooms. The closest parking is on the street right next to the skatepark. But there is also a parking lot located a short skate away.

We visit as many skateparks as we can during our travels. But one thing that stood out at the Ridgecrest Skatepark was the number of fighter jets flying around all day! There is an Air Force Base in Ridgecrest so the locals are probably used to it but I couldn’t help but look up and try to spot them.

First Impressions:

The Ridgecrest Skatepark is relatively small with smooth cement. Although the skatepark is small, there are a lot of obstacles to explore. The Ridgecrest Skatepark seems to cater to street style skating with the many boxes and ledges. But there are also lines to be found for cruising around and surfing the banked turns.

Pros:
There are many different features and obstacles as well as a few banked turns and a small bowl. This skatepark is great for a traditional skateboard.

Cons:
There’s not a whole lot of room to cruise around especially once school gets out. You’ll notice tons of scooters.

Know Before You Go:
Less busy while school is in session, open from 5am until midnight, and bikes are not permitted in the skatepark.

Where is it:
The Ridgecrest Skatepark is located at: 300 French Ave, Ridgecrest, CA 93555
You can find it on the south west side of the park and there is parking on the street.

Riders Thoughts: Ridgecrest Skatepark

The Ridgecrest Skatepark is a cool little skatepark. When we first arrived at the skatepark I was thrilled that there was no one there! We had the skatepark all to ourselves. The perimeter of the skatepark is level with the ground, but most of the park is about 5 feet below ground level.

There is a hand rail along one side of the skatepark which is a great area for watching people skate. Not only is it out of the way, but it’s higher than most of the people skating in the park. Skating this park in the middle of the day was nice because the park was empty, but the desert sun was hot.

I enjoyed skating at the Ridgrecest Skatepark with my longboard because the park has ramps and roll ins that are smooth enough for my longboard not to bottom out too much.

The north side of the skatepark is elevated with a box that ramps down to a wide banked turn. This turn has multiple levels of height to roll down.

The ramps on this side of the park descend at a good slope to build up speed that you can carry through the rest of the park. This side of the park has a decent sized staircase with boxes and metal ledges on either side. There is also another smaller staircase that descends to a pyramid box on the floor of the skatepark.

So many great features in this compact skatepark!

In the middle of the Ridgecrest Skatepark there is a cool but odd shaped pyramid box with ramps on one side and a rounded peninsula formation on the other.

This box is a great feature to have in the middle of the skatepark because it can serve as a small banked turn to redirect traffic or it can be used to pump down to help maintain speed through the park. The lower part of the skatepark has a number of ramps and boxes that are great to hit from either direction.

There is a multi level pyramid box on one side of the park that is great for pumping speed in either direction. This feature also has boxes with metal ledges for grinding.

This is a cool feature because it allows riders to slowly improve their skating skills by providing multiple levels of ledges.

The west side of the Ridgecrest Skatepark has a wedge shape sticking out of the vert style ramp creating two small banked turns. This side of the park also has a roll in to the ramp. The roll in is kinda steep, would definitely scrape the bottom of a longboard but is doable at the right angle. This side of the park was fun because of the banked turn.

The edges of the ramp go straight into the wall on either side of the park. If these corners of the park were rounded or turned into a banked turn the park would have a much better flow… but you gotta skate what’s there.

Up on the west side of the skatepark is where the small bowl is located. The bowl is completely surrounded in coping, so I was unable to get my longboard in. The bowl itself is small, but a good size for someone learning to drop in and take small banked turns.

The edge of the bowl has a few different heights which make it good for someone trying to perfect their drop in abilities.

The skatepark in Ridgecrest California is a fun little skatepark with a bunch of features. The compact size of the skatepark made it fun for me to cruise around on the ripstick, but not a great skatepark for the longboard.

The Ridgecrest Skatepark would be great for riders on a traditional skateboard. The flow of the park is great for ollies and jumping boxes. There are also a ton of opportunities to grind and hit ledges.
