Riders Thoughts: Federal Heights Skatepark

Federal Heights Skatepark is a really fun skatepark that offers riders a great variety of obstacles and features in a unique layout. There are a number of ramps all over the park ranging from small and mellow to large and steep with lots in between.

Along with all the many ramps, there are a few areas with other transitions. One of these features is a rounded waterfall type roll in that is pretty steep but has smooth transitions. This type of roll in is great for the longboard because the smooth transition on top is easier than going over coping or a ledge. Plus the smooth transition on the bottom makes for a smooth exit from the wall. This also allows riders to keep a good amount of speed.

One unique feature of the Federal Heights Skatepark is the set of humps that leads up to a ramp with coping. I have only seen this type of obstacle at one other skatepark called Mosqueda. This one is a little bit smaller and the humps are a little bit more dramatic which may cause your board to bottom out. But riders can use these humps to build momentum and launch up over the coping.

The large Federal Heights Skatepark has a pretty good flow. There are smooth transitions and a bunch of banked turns that are a great for some cement surfing! The deepest section of the vert area is a rounded bowl with coping all around and plenty of room to enter from the main open area of the skatepark. This transition into the bowl was fun on the longboard.

I found this skatepark to have a fun layout for longboarding in a skatepark. And the park itself has a nice downhill slope to it that longboarders will enjoy. You can even start your run at the top of the hill and coast downhill right into the skatepark! But be careful, you’ll go faster than you think!
