Longboarding the Caliente Pump Track in Nevada

Our travels allow us to explore awesome skate spots all around the country, which is how we found this unexpected pump track! The Caliente Pump Track is a small, very unique pump track inside the tiny town of Caliente, Nevada. This track is a cast concrete pump track built by American Ramp Company. It’s great for finding some flow and surfing the cement in the desert! All sorts of vehicles can use this pump track, but I enjoy riding a longboard on pump tracks.

First Impressions of the Caliente Pump Track:

An unexpected surprise was the first emotion I felt when we pulled up to the Caliente Pump track. We had no idea I was going to get to longboard a pump track in this tiny Nevada town until we saw the track with our real eyes. The next thing I noticed was that it is a small and narrow track.

Pros: Smooth, quick, narrow, fun experience.

Cons: This is a pretty small pump track (though not the smallest we’ve ever seen)

Know Before You Go: The pump track is inside the larger Caliente Skills Park, which has about 3 miles of dirt mountain bike trails, banked turns, and jumps!

Riders Thoughts of Caliente Pump Track:

The Caliente Pump Track is a very smooth cement pump track with small rollers. While longboarding the pump track, I learned there are some important characteristics that make this track more challenging that you might first think.

small and narrow pump track in nevada

The track is pretty small and the rollers are pretty short so it seems like this would be an easy or beginner pump track. But staying on the narrow path and steep banked turns of the Caliente Pump Track requires technical skills and precision, especially when you’re going fast. There is very little margin for error on this track.

Not to mention avoiding all the gravel! I don’t know why they chose to surround a cement pump track with tons of tiny gravel.

The banked turns at the Caliente pump track are not very tall, but they are very steep. The track allows you to easily build up speed. And sometimes it feels easy to go too fast and risk going over the short walls! But if you can control it, this is a good place to grind!

Because of this pump tracks small size there are not many turns, so riding the track backwards will allow you to take turns both front and back side.

Riding this small pump track can be difficult on a longboard. I imagine it would be even harder on a bike. Luckily, there are a ton of other biking opportunities and features at the skills park in Caliente Nevada!

From this view you can see the simple layout of this little pump track. The “s” turn is tricky, and the tight turn on the end can feel pretty narrow when you’re going fast!
