Hand Painted Longboards

Lost Coast Longboarding and The Lost Longboarder blog are about freedom and adventure. This is made possible by the creation of our hand painted Longboards. Living on the road full time is our attempt at freedom and working for ourselves is a huge part of achieving the freedom we desire. Creating hand painted longboards is what we do, it is our livelihood and this is how we make our living. Each and every longboard we create is unique, there is pride and passion behind the art.

“The desire to create has been part of my life since the beginning, and the canvas I choose for each original art piece just happens to be a piece of wood with wheels.” -Shane Rabant

Each hand painted longboard takes between 24-36 hours of work to be completed. Every Lost Coast Longboarding longboard is sanded, painted, sealed, grip tapped, and assembled by hand. Sometimes when people look at our latest line up of boards they ask: How do you paint that? And the answer seems almost too simple, with paint and a paint brush, one at a time. No two Lost Coast Longboarding boards are the same, each board is unique and has a personality of itself.

Most longboarders will ride their longboard for years, there is a personal connection between rider and their board. Knowing that your board is a unique and is truly one of a kind helps to strengthen the bond between the rider and their longboard.

Creating and providing riders with a one of a kind longboard is a rewarding feeling that encourages us to keep doing what we do.

There is variety of wood types used for longboard decks, the type of wood depends on the shape and style of that particular deck. The wood used range from the traditional 7 ply Canadian Maple, Southern Hardwood, Bamboo, as well as the occasional Bamboo Fiberglass composite.

Since we live life on the road, my studio usually has a great back drop. The breathtaking places that Katie finds us to live give me the endless inspiration to paint and create.
