Journey from Humboldt to The Central Coast

Our cross country journey started on the lost coast of California, in Humboldt County. My wife and I are driving across the country and we are planning on stopping into as many skate shops as we can to see if they are interested in carrying our Lost Coast Longboarding boards and apparel. I am also going to meet as many independent longboard makers as I can.

We packed up our truck with all of our stuff, in the rain of a northern California winter and headed south.

We stopped at about 7 or 8 skate shops from the north coast to the central coast. The ones that stuck out the the most to me were the guys at Brotherhood Skate Shop in Mendocino, Sonoma Coast Surf and Skate in Petaluma, and Central Coast Surfboards in San Luis Obispo.

After I checked out Central Coast Surfboards I cruised the town a little. It is a nice little downtown, but there are people everywhere so it’s easier to cruise the streets. I found a place called bubble gum alley, it’s literally an alley covered in bubble gum.

I used to live on the central coast so I knew about Wave Lengths Surf Shop and the Skateboard Museum in Morro Bay so we had to stop there. The Morro Bay Skateboard Museum is awesome, there is a lot of skate history to see there. You can check out my article on the museum HERE.  But here is a preview of the museum.

Morro bay is a great place to longboard. The town is at a nice downhill from the start all the way to the water. You can also ride along the path to Morro Rock. If you’re there during the right season you can see seals and sea otters too!

After Morro Bay, we headed over to San Luis Obispo to check out the skate park. The SLO skate park is my favorite skatepark with a bunch of bowls that link together, and plenty of street obstacles too. You can check out my full review of the SLO skatepark HERE. Here’s a picture of me riding a ripstick in the main bowl!

I met some good people on my way to the central coast, and look forward to posting more about my trip from the central coast to LA!
